Acupuncture and Infertility Pt1

Acupuncture was developed over a few thousand years mainly in China and then later in Japan.

Acupuncture is only one modality of the whole spectrum of Chinese Medicine and use very fine needles that gets inserted into precise points on the body called acu-points. In the west acupuncture is mainly used for pain relief and musculo-skeletal conditions.

Blood pressure can also be regulated through the stimulation of the central nervous system, especially high blood pressure from stress, due to the calming effect that acupuncture produce.

Endorphins, a group of hormones that inhibits pain, get released by the body during acupuncture and produce a nice calming feeling of wellness. Neurotransmitters and neurohormones also get released that help to stimulate the body’s own healing response.

Infertility especially due to hormonal imbalances can be treated with acupuncture and can be used in combination with other infertility treatments to enhance the effect.

Its effects on the body’s systems are that it help regulate the hormone levels and helps blood flow to the vital organs.

In relation to fertility it helps in improving ovarian and follicular functions.

Blood flow to the uterus increase helping to create a thick and rich endometrium lining.

Studies also show that acupuncture improve the success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures.

There is a number of fertility centers that are starting to offer acupuncture as part of their IVF treatments.

More pregnancies resulted, when the embryo transfer process was, preceded by regular acupuncture treatments as part of the IVF protocol.

In certain cases where spasmed or twisted tubes are the cause of infertility then acupuncture treatments can help as well.

If blocked tubes are the cause of infertility then acupuncture alone is not going to be of help but if spasmed tubes are part of the problem of the blocked tubes then acupuncture will help with de-spasming the tubes.

Because acupuncture is just one part of Oriental medicine, various herbal formulas will most often be combined with the treatment. A combination of herbal and acupuncture treatment protocols are often very effective in the treatment of unexplained infertility, hormonal causes of infertility due to elevated follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteal hormone (LSH) phase defect, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), irregular menstrual cycles as well as male sperm conditions.
