The two albums have a noticeably different tone and attitude as well; Honey is dominated by pop songs about love, often (though not always) with a melancholy undertow, while We Gotta Start Lovin' is a light but sincere collection of message songs touching on the need for brotherhood and idealism in the face of racism and war. What holds these two albums together is Goldsboro's voice, which is in fine fettle throughout. While he often favored material that offered plenty of opportunity for sentimental overkill, Goldsboro was a performer with an admirable sense of restraint, and the warm, rich tone of his instrument would have given him plenty of room to emote, his philosophy seemed to be "less is more," and it serves him well on these 23 tracks. Goldsboro also wrote a healthy share of the material on both albums, and while he wasn't a great tunesmith, he was certainly a good one, and he was a good judge of other's work given the strength of what appeared on these two LPs. The Glaser Brothers signed to Elektra and released two records, 1981's Lovin' Her Was Easier and the following year's After All These Years, that straddled the line between Tompall's outlaw and urban cowboy; the attitude was a bit rebellious but the sound made the albums easier fits for a country radio that was getting increasingly slick. And these two records did make some impact on the airwaves -- the cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Lovin' Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again" was a significant hit, reaching number two on the country charts -- and in retrospect they have many of the aural hallmarks of early-'80s country-pop, particularly in the big drums and polished veneer that sounded like it was built on synths even if it wasn't. Even so, beneath that sheen the Glaser Brothers thankfully were as idiosyncratic as ever in their song choices and how they blended American styles. Lovin' Her Was Easier was built upon covers, highlighted by a lazily mournful reading of Harlan Howard's "Busted" and a surprisingly light version of Hank Williams' "A Mansion on the Hill," and it also revived the wonderful "Drinking Them Beers," which Tompall had cut for MGM. It's not just that much of this music was familiar: the Glaser Brothers adhere to the folky, harmony-heavy progressive country that made their early-'70s records so distinctive, and even if Lovin' Her Was Easier is just a shade smoother than those records, it works to their benefit: it helps make the record feel as warm and friendly as a reunion should. It was a warmth that didn't last long: they split up, this time for good, after their next album, After All These Years, which retained some of the same spirit of their 1981 comeback but had a different feel. Like that album, After All These Years had a stronger crossover element within its smooth production than might be expected based on Tompall's outlaw reputation, but even if this is slicker than Lovin' Her Was Easier, this also doesn't feel like a conscious crossover attempt; it feels like it was simply playing by the rules of the time, at least as far as the production is concerned. That can't quite be said about the material that the Glaser Brothers chose to cover on After All These Years. Instead of relying on country chestnuts, they relied on newer songs, from the Mickey Newbury song "I Still Love You (After All These Years)" that gave the album its title to "Stay Young," which Don Williams later turned into a hit. The two albums have a noticeably different tone and attitude as well; Honey is dominated by pop songs about love, often (though not always) with a melancholy undertow, while We Gotta Start Lovin` is a light but sincere collection of message songs touching on the need for brotherhood and idealism in the face of racism and war. What holds these two albums together is Goldsboro`s voice, which is in fine fettle throughout. While he often favored material that offered plenty of opportunity for sentimental overkill, Goldsboro was a performer with an admirable sense of restraint, and the warm, rich tone of his instrument would have given him plenty of room to emote, his philosophy seemed to be "less is more," and it serves him well on these 23 tracks. Goldsboro also wrote a healthy share of the material on both albums, and while he wasn`t a great tunesmith, he was certainly a good one, and he was a good judge of other`s work given the strength of what appeared on these two LPs. It`s hard to say how this disc got released rather than a two-fer of albums from the same year (or with a more similar approach), and most folks would do better with the 1991 compilation The Best of Bobby Goldsboro: Honey, but for serious fans this is a fine look into the man`s back catalog and surprisingly enjoyable for casual listeners. ~ Mark Deming Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Elm $35.99 In the '70s, pianist Richard Beirach pioneered a distinctive type of ethereal jazz, characterized by lush, polytonal harmonies and frequent outbursts of angular, high-velocity lines that broke up the austere moods of his compositions. This beautiful trio outing with bassist George Mraz and drummer Jack DeJohnette is classic Beirach, and as apt an example of the "ECM sound" as one will find. The piano reverberates in concert hall fashion, even as the bass and drums interact with a looseness, and often an explosiveness, that is anything but cold and removed. There are only five tracks on Elm, but because each presents a different aspect of Beirach's music, the album is satisfying and quite whole. The opener, "Sea Priestess," presents deceptively simple harmonies over a lilting even-eighth groove. About halfway through its 12 or so minutes, the music fades to a barely audible whisper, gradually returning to its original intensity. "Pendulum," a rather ingenious descending melody that creates its own kind of modal progression, finds the trio burning at a medium swing tempo. The tune rings out like a sort of modal anthem, a quality that the Dave Liebman Quintet would put to good use on its 1979 live album Pendulum. "Ki" ebbs and flows with rubato swells of harmony, while the epic "Snow Leopard" boils over with a fast swing feel, interrupted by a pregnant moment of silence before Mraz's bass solo. Finally, "Elm" proceeds with the melodic shape and rhythmic evenness of a classical etude (Brad Mehldau would write similar music some 20 years later), but the syncopated unison figure that occurs in the 15th bar of the form reminds listeners that they are squarely in modern jazz territory. The tune's reharmonized coda is a masterful touch on Beirach's part. At the time of its release, Elm represented an emerging new standard for modern piano trio music, and it remains every bit as valid and vital. ~ David R. What suntan oil, lotion would you recommend for tanning in Greece?

I'm going to Greece this summer, and since the sunscreen and things like that are outrageously expensive in the high tourism season, the product / s will be purchased in Canada. I am Greek, and an olive skintone I think? Haha, I tan moderately fast, especially in the heat there! I will not use a sunscreen with suntan oil, lotion, so somethign with SPF would be great.

I would use SPF 12 or more isn't the Greek sun lasts, but you do not need sunscreen if you stay long and yes sunscreen is try expensive 12-15 Euro for SPF 12 if you want a higher SPF of his dearest weird eh? but thats greece
