"What could they say?" I asked myself, left with a feeling of content, after reading Joyce Garity's essay "Is Sex All That Matters? "Able to identify with her on most of its points of view of the world we live in today, I felt a part of the weight being lifted off my shoulders, relieved that I am not the only human being in this world for the magazine and on TV, half of nude models posing as exploits sex like a brainwashing the minds of people.
We are influenced by our society, culture and especially what we perceive. Over there is not a magazine or an advertisement for television display in Times Square, it does not give or sending a sexual message to people. These ads are intended for viewers to believe in their fantasies and promises that if you only buy and not wearing a certain pair of jeans, you will not look sexy or, if you do not buy it and wear some cologne or perfume, no man can ever you want, or even if you do not look thin and small, you will not have a social life because Skinny is to be considered beautiful. In most advertisements U.S., literally, a man and a woman running around chasing other on the beach a half-naked, with love, they hug and kiss, which means "Forget reality, let's make love. Forget the fact that you might have a disease and I have a big chance of getting pregnant. Forget about it. "More people watch these commercials, the more they believe that these messages to be true. Forget all that, only love and passion for issues! Wrong! Today, statistics on people diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease is high, and statistics on adolescents over impregnated high. And because of these teenagers have children they are unable to take care of, there are millions of children in family Home is currently no real place to call home.
In his essay, Joyce Garity, a social worker, visits all topics relating to "sex in the media "and identifies what the negative messages the world is to send out to our youth today. It refers to a girl in particular. Elaine came to live with it for a while. Troubled and almost alone in the world, she was again pregnant with her second child when her first child had been placed in a foster home. Asked by Garity why she fell pregnant again, she said she thought birth control and condoms unromantic and embarrassing, and can not really be passionate sex and anxiety in about using contraceptives at the same time. In other words, Elaine was just another person brainwashed, lost in a fantasy world where negativity no. Forget reality!
How can – we deprogram the damage was done by the media? We can begin by self-education of oneself through self-help books. For self-educate ourselves, we get knowledge and knowledge comes a transforming the way we think, act and feel. Let's start by making our own conclusions as to how we should live by the moral, just and standards.
